Who we are

Outing Owl (www.outingowl.app) recommends family-friendly events near you. It's currently a small, invitation-only beta run by Patrick McGaha. Questions: hoot@outingowl.app.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address and name (or your Google account's email and name if you use Continue with Google).
  • Your family profile: the number of children, each child's birth month and year (never the full birthdate), and an optional first name or nickname.
  • Location: your home ZIP code and, if you choose, your street address.
  • Preferences: how far you'll drive, budget, when you're free, and interests you pick.
  • What you do in the app: events you swipe on, mark interested or planned, ratings, notes, and each child's reactions you enter.
  • Settings: such as whether you prefer the list or the map.
We don't collect your precise location from your phone, contacts, or payment details.

How we use it

Only to run Outing Owl for your family: picking events that suit your children's ages and interests, estimating drive times, showing your plans and shortlist, sending sign-in codes and (if enabled) a weekly email of new picks, and improving recommendations over time based on your ratings and swipes.

Who else handles your data

We use a few service providers to run the app. They process data only to provide their service to us:
  • Supabase: stores your account and family data (database and sign-in).
  • Vercel: hosts the app.
  • Resend: delivers emails such as sign-in codes.
  • Google: Google Maps turns your ZIP or address into a map location and estimates drive times; Google sign-in, if you use it.
  • Anthropic (Claude): to rank events for your family, we send a short profile (children's ages and optional first names, interests, budget, drive limit) along with the list of events. We don't send your email or address.
We don't sell your data, show ads, or share your information with event venues or advertisers.

Children

Outing Owl is for parents and caregivers. Children don't use it or create accounts. We store only the details a parent chooses to enter about their children (birth month and year, and an optional first name or nickname) and use them only to suggest age-appropriate events.

Keeping your data safe

Your family's data is protected so that only people in your family account can see it. Data is sent over secure connections, and access keys are kept on our servers, never in the app on your phone.

Your choices

You can view and change your family details at any time under Family in the app. To delete your account and your family's data, email hoot@outingowl.app and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
